Understanding the Gryd system

Our solar package includes panels, battery storage, and a hybrid inverter—working together to generate, store, and intelligently manage a homes energy.

To truly future-proof your homes, we recommend going all electric, specifying an Air Source Heat Pump in place of a gas boiler, and an EV charger. Connecting these devices together and managing them intelligently can boost savings, working seamlessly with the Gryd system.

FAQs

Gryd solar is a turnkey solar and battery system delivered as a 25 year fixed price subscription. It includes the design, supply, and financing of a system uniquely tailored to your home, and includes all ongoing monitoring, maintenance and insurance.

Our solar subscription has three components: solar panels, an inverter, and a smart battery.

We offer a full 25-year performance warranty on all parts of the system (including solar, battery and inverters) as part of the solar subscription – including maintenance, servicing and part replacement so you don’t need to worry about a thing.

Solar subscription removes the costs associated with solar ownership – saving on average £10,000 in upfront costs. Homeowners/tenants pay a simple fixed monthly fee guaranteed for 25 years and includes all maintenance, servicing and replacement parts of the smart system.

At the end of the 25 year agreement there are two options for the homeowner;

  1. The subscription is renewed for another 25 years and Gryd upgrades the hardware to the latest specification and home energy demand profile. The homeowner enters into an updated subscription with a new system.
  2. The subscription is not renewed, at which point the homeowner is gifted the system and Gryd ceases ownership of the hardware, passing ownership onto the homeowner. From this point there is no subscription payment and the homeowner is responsible for the system and its operation.

The subscription is transferred to the new homeowner, in the same way that any other utility contract would be transferred. Alternatively, if preferred, the value of the solar & battery system can be included in the sale price of the home and the homeowner can make a full early repayment (without any fees or penalties) either before the sale or using the proceeds from the sale.

Gryd can support the entire sales process. We work closely with a developers sales and marketing team to produce bespoke marketing material for display in the show home or marketing suite, provide assistance and training to the sales team and can be contacted by the sales team or customers to discuss any questions they have.

Gryd Energy or one of Gryd’s subsidiaries will own and maintain the Smart Solar System for the full 25 year contract period on behalf of the homeowner.

Gryd will own and maintain the Smart Solar System. We monitor the equipment remotely to check its operating optimally and will arrange regular servicing and replacement parts where required. This will typically include a replacement of the battery and inverter components once during the 25 year period.

Unlike other solar subscriptions, if the homeowner wants to move, the solar energy system would remain in place and the subscription would be inherited by the new owner. Both the existing homeowner and the incoming homeowner can choose to take ownership of the system and end the subscription at any time, including as part of the home sale/purchase.

As part of the subscription, Gryd will be the primary electricity supplier to the property. The electricity demand for the property will first be met by what is currently being generated by the solar panels, if this is not sufficient it will be supplied by the energy stored in the battery.

The home will maintain a relationship with a traditional energy retailer for periods where the home’s demand may exceed the generation and that stored in the battery.

Our optimisation software will work to help the homeowner to shift as much of their energy demand to be served by the solar energy system and minimise importing energy from the grid, which is more expensive.
Despite the UK’s reputation of being grey and wet, it is actually well suited for solar. A typical home with a Gryd Smart Solar System aims to achieve ~70% of its electricity supply from solar. Gryd’s intelligent software underpins the hardware and is focused on optimising the home’s energy use in line with solar generation. I.e prompting and automating energy usage at the times when solar generation is highest, maximising the benefit of the system to the customer.
