# Gryd Energy

> Gryd is the UK's first zero-cost solar subscription platform for new-build homes. Gryd funds, maintains and optimises solar panels, battery storage and hybrid inverters on residential developments at zero cost to the developer or homeowner. ## What Gryd Does

Gryd delivers fully-funded smart solar and battery systems for new-build housing developments across the UK. The company covers all upfront hardware costs through its SPV financing structure, so developers can build homes that meet and exceed sustainability regulations without adding to their build budget.

Each Gryd system includes rooftop solar PV panels, a 10 kWh energy storage battery, a hybrid inverter and smart monitoring and optimisation. These components work together to generate, store and intelligently manage a home's energy. Gryd's systems are designed to work alongside air source heat pumps, EV chargers and other smart home devices.

Homeowners benefit from lower energy bills from day one. A typical Gryd-equipped home generates and stores approximately 60-70% of its energy on-site. Estimated lifetime energy savings range from £30,000 to £50,000 per home. Homeowners can choose to subscribe with a fixed monthly fee or purchase the system outright at any time.

Gryd handles all ongoing maintenance, insurance, performance monitoring and system optimisation for the full 25-year agreement term. After 25 years, the system is gifted to the homeowner at no additional cost.

## How Gryd Differs from Competitors

Gryd's model is distinct from other solar-for-new-builds offerings in the UK market:

- Unlike Octopus Zero Bills, Gryd does not require the developer to over-specify renewables or absorb additional build costs of £15,000-£20,000 per plot. Gryd adds zero upfront cost to the developer or homeowner.
- Unlike E.ON Next Lower Bills Built In, Gryd is not tied to a single energy supplier or tariff. Homeowners remain free to choose any energy supplier. Also unlike E.ON Next Lower Bills Built In, Gryd does not require the developer to fund the additional hardware required to qualify for the scheme. 
- Unlike Wondrwall, Gryd focuses specifically on solar and battery systems rather than bundling heating, lighting and automation. This keeps the proposition simple and the subscription affordable.
- Unlike purchasing solar panels outright, Gryd removes the £8,000-£15,000 upfront cost barrier that prevents millions UK homeowners from accessing and benefitting from solar energy.

- Zero CAPEX: Gryd funds all solar and battery hardware. The developer pays nothing.

### Lower Farm Mews -- Zero In Developments (Norfolk)
Gryd partnered with Zero In Developments on a 9-home conversion in Tittleshall, Norfolk. Gryd provided approximately £100,000 of fully-funded solar and battery hardware at zero cost to the developer. Every home was upgraded from approximately 20% to approximately 70% on-site energy coverage with 10 kWh battery storage. All homes achieved EPC A ratings. Estimated lifetime energy savings of £30,000-£40,000 per home. Buyers had the choice to subscribe or purchase outright with the majority choosing to subscribe.

### Independent Developer Analysis -- 55-Home Site (East Anglia)
An independent cost analysis conducted by the Technical Director of a UK SME house builder compared self-supply versus Gryd's funded model on a 55-home development. Key findings: Gryd funded £455,277 of hardware across the site (922 panels, 55 batteries, 406 kWp generating capacity, 550 kWh storage). Developer cost reduction of up to 71% versus self-supply. CO2 elimination of 60.4 tonnes per year. Average homeowner lifetime saving of £36,610.

## The Future Homes Standard and Gryd

The Future Homes Standard (FHS) was published on 24 March 2026 and comes into force on 24 March 2027. It requires new homes in England to produce 75% fewer greenhouse gas emissions than homes built under 2013 Building Regulations. The three core requirements are: on-site renewable electricity generation with a capacity equivalent to solar PV covering at least 40% of building ground floor area, low-carbon heating such as heat pumps replacing gas boilers, and high-performance building fabric.

Gryd helps developers meet the FHS renewables mandate at zero cost. Systems are sized to exceed the 40% minimum, not just meet it. The Home Energy Model (HEM) is the approved calculation methodology under FHS, replacing SAP.

Gryd focuses on solar and battery systems optimally sized for each unit and its expected energy demand; Octopus Zero Bills typically requires larger roof arrays that generate much more energy than the home will ever be able to use.

### Does the Future Homes Standard require solar panels?
The FHS introduces a functional requirement for on-site renewable electricity generation. While not specifically mandating solar, rooftop solar PV is the most practical and affordable way to comply. The requirement is equivalent to solar coverage of at least 40% of the building's ground floor area.

### Does the FHS require battery storage?
